Blog #4 - Day 6 and 7

It is now the second week of my Hawken project and on Monday, I started to prepare to run tests on the prototype that is a version to the MRI incubator that can be found on Sree Medical Systems website (http://www.advimg.com/product/neonatal-mri-transport-incubator/) to see if it meets the requirements. I learned that I am creating a PowerPoint trifold board to talk about the tests that I will be running. The testing and the trifold board are what I will be working on for the two weeks that are left. Each test takes two to three hours to run, so I will probably run one a day. When I am finished, I will be able to share out what I have learned throughout the 3 weeks. So far, I have my title and I’ve been working on writing the abstract. I also learned what the head circumference, weight, and length for 0-1 month old boys and girls in the 95th percentile are. Ravi and Jose based their part on the boys’ measurements because boys tend to be bigger than girls and this product has to fit most 0-1 month olds.

Tuesday was supposed to be the first day of running tests, however, we didn’t have enough batteries, so we couldn’t start it Tuesday; we’ll start tomorrow (Wednesday). Instead, I worked on my trifold project, finishing up the abstract and working on the background and objective sections. By the end of the day (Tuesday), I finished the background and objective parts of my project. My first week was a lot of reading and I would consider myself not a big reader, so you would think I didn’t enjoy last week, yet, I learned a lot from reading. I would have preferred a little less, but there was a reason for all that reading. It was preparing me for the next/last two weeks.

  1. Sasha, this sounds like a big week for your project. I really enjoyed visiting and seeing the incubator and your trifold. I'm glad to hear that the reading last week is paying off and allowing you to really dive in this week to make a strong contribution. I look forward to reading more and learning more about this important work!
